The origin of the name
The Invalides are among the most emblematic monuments of the capital. It was Louis XIV who ordered in 1670 to build this construction. The goal was to accommodate the blind, maimed and other disabled who were wounded in the war.
We owe this masterpiece of classical architecture to Liberal Bruant and Jules Hardouin-Mansart. A building that not only played the role of hospital, hospice, but also barracks and monastery.
