Located on the Champ-de-Mars, the Grand Palais Éphémère was built to temporarily replace the Grand Palais, currently under construction.
An ephemeral site for events
Put in place for the entire duration of the restoration of the Grand Palais, the Grand Palais Éphémère allows us to continue to host events initially organized in the Nave. The program, intended for the general public, is then rich and varied, ranging from exhibitions to live performances.
During the summer of 2024, the Grand Palais Éphémère will also host some Olympic events, such as judo, wrestling, para-judo and wheelchair rugby.
A huge and modern architectural project
The Grand Palais Éphémère rests on a huge wooden frame imagined and designed by the architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, and unveils an innovative project. Indeed, the whole structure has remarkable ecological virtues and durable materials, and the whole building can be dismantled and reassembled. There modular structure should then leave the Champ-de-Mars after the Olympic Games, in the fall of 2024.
Between the Eiffel Tower and the Ecole Militaire, the Grand Palace Ephemeral is installed on the Joffre plateau, and culminates at 20 meters in height. Its integration was done with the greatest respect for the lines of the Champ-de-Mars, and the statue of Marshal Joffre which adjoins it. This statue also took advantage of the temporary installation to get a makeover during a major restoration project.
Take advantage of your visit to the Grand Palais Éphémère to stroll on the Champ-de-Mars
A stone’s throw from the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Palais Éphémère is an extension of the Champ de Mars park, this pretty park ideal for strolling, and where many tourists take their picture while enjoying the view of the Iron Lady.
One of the largest unenclosed green spaces in Paris
Walking through the alleys of the Champ-de-Mars, in the heart of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, it is difficult to realize its magnitude. However, more than 24 hectares of trees are accessible to walkers, day and night.
If in the 16th century the space was made up of vegetable gardens and vines, the landscape has changed a lot two centuries later. At that time, the Army decided to monopolize the space to make it a field of maneuver where more than 10,000 men were organized there.
The beauty of the place will make it a space of choice for many commemorations, but also for the universal exhibitions, from 1855. The places are then transformed by the architect Jean-Camille Formigé to make it a vast lawn interspersed with tree-lined paths.
A pleasant walk in the heart of Paris
Inspired by French gardens, the central part of the Champ-de-Mars park is an invitation to relax. There are perpendicular alleys and a pretty perspective guided by an alignment of plane trees.
On the sides of the lawns, the English garden is revealed by the winding alleys with multiple corners. Around the water points, ducks, moorhens and swans meet.
During your walk in the Champ de Mars park, you will also discover many bronze statues, including that of the bust of Gustave Eiffel, as well as multiple species of trees, each more majestic than the next.
